Salvatore Nicosia, Farmingdale Village Justice, Dead At 84

"This is truly a tremendous loss," Farmingdale Mayor Ralph Ekstrand says. Nicosia died in late January.

FARMINGDALE, NY — Salvatore J. Nicosia, of Farmingdale, died on Jan. 29 at the age of 84.

Nicosia was a Farmingdale Village justice, serving the community for more than two decades. He had a career as a local attorney and proudly served as a judge for New York state and Farmingdale Village after receiving his Juris Doctor from the St. John's University School of Law.

Nicosia is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Barbara, according to McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home. He was a loving father of James (Diane) and Susan (Mike) and the loving brother of Lawrence Nicosia and Maryann DiStefano. He was a cherished grandfather of Christopher, Jennifer, Mark, Stephanie and Thomas. He was a devoted uncle to many nieces and nephews and a friend and colleague to innumerable others.

He was an avid golfer and longtime member of Rotary International.

"On behalf of the Board of Trustees and local community, we extend our deepest condolences to his family and mourn the loss of Sal Nicosia," Farmingdale Village Mayor Ralph Ekstrand wrote in a statement. "This is truly a tremendous loss, rest in peace Justice Sal Nicosia, you will truly be missed."

Nicosia was born on Aug. 22, 1936.

A private interment was held Feb. 3 at St. Charles Cemetery. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.

Instead of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to your charity of choice to honor Nicosia's life.
