South Farmingdale Student Receives NSWCA Bartilucci Scholarship
NSWCA awards its 2020 Nicholas J. Bartilucci Manhattan College Scholarship to Samanta Miraglia of South Famingdale.
July 7, 2020, South Farmingdale, NY – The Nassau Suffolk Water Commissioners' Association (NSWCA), which consists of water commissioners representing 21 water districts across Nassau and Suffolk Counties and serves over 625,000 Long Islanders, has awarded the prestigious NSWCA 2020 Nicholas J. Bartilucci Manhattan College Scholarship to Samantha Miraglia of South Farmingdale, New York.
Opened to entering freshmen enrolled full-time in any engineering degree program at Manhattan College, Ms. Miraglia, a Plainedge High School graduate, applied for and was awarded this coveted annual scholarship based on her academic credentials and extracurricular activities.
NSWCA President and Hicksville Water District Commissioner William Schuckmann presided over the ceremony where Ms. Miraglia was presented with her scholarship and stated, "NSWCA's annual Nicholas J. Bartilucci Manhattan College Scholarship honors the memory of the late Nicholas J. Bartilucci, who was a dynamic leader in environmentalism and the Long Island water industry. By enabling outstanding students such as Samantha Miraglia with the means to expand their interest and studies in engineering, we at NSWCA continue to promote Nick's passion for engineering education, water sustainability and environmentalism here on Long Island while supporting next generation leaders in these areas."

During the scholarship presentation ceremony, NSWCA President Schuckmann acknowledged the involvement and assistance of NSWCA member Raymond Averna, Massapequa Water District Commissioner, and Elizabeth Plaushin, Director of Planned Giving at Manhattan College (Riverdale, NY), who were both instrumental in this year's scholarship selection process.
The presentation ceremony was held at the South Huntington Water District, which was hosted by South Farmingdale Water District Commissioner and former NSWCA President Gary Brosnan. Among those in attendance during the scholarship presentation were Samantha's father, Sammy Miraglia, and commissioners from water district members of NSWCA.

Emphasis is placed on academic credentials and extracurricular activities. Potential applicants must reside in one of the 21 Nassau Suffolk Water Commissioners' Association (NSWCA) member water districts.
Nicholas J. Bartilucci was not only a founding member and past President of Nassau Suffolk Water Commissioners' Association (NSWCA), but a man whose observations, experience and technical engineering expertise made him a field leader in Long Island water. His distinguished career as President of D&B Engineers and Architects, P.C. of Woodbury, N.Y. spanned the terms of nine U.S. presidents and included 48 years of dedicated service to the Jericho Water District. As one of the industry's most respected leaders, Bartilucci, a Manhattan College graduate and engineer with virtually unparalleled waste water and potable water expertise, left an indelible mark on Long Island and beyond. His numerous achievements are well documented. His steady presence, sage advice and willingness to help in every situation are well known to all in the engineering and water industries.
Nassau Suffolk Water Commissioners' Association (NSWCA) is comprised of water commissioners from 21 Nassau County and Suffolk County water districts. The organization is dedicated to communication, efficiency and best practices among Long Island's water districts. As part of its mission, the Association holds monthly educational meetings sponsoring experts on topics that include law, cost efficiencies, rules and regulations and issues germane to water utilities
