Vegan Drag Queen Brings 100th Fundraiser Drag Show To LI

Honey LaBronx is bringing her fundraising efforts to a Long Island LGBTQ bar. Proceeds will benefit local community charities.

FARMINGDALE, NY — Honey LaBronx, who calls herself "the outrageous vegan drag queen from New York City," is coming to Long Island for her 100th fundraiser drag show. The show will be held at NuBar, found at 47 Boundary Ave., Farmingdale, on Monday, Oct. 14, at 8 p.m.

The fundraiser is benefiting local community charities, Pride for Youth and Long Island Orchestrating for Nature (LION). The loud, explicit and loving host will be asking for a $20 suggested donation at the door. Cash and credit cards will be accepted.

LaBronx, also known as Ben Strothmann — actor, singer, playwright, theatrical photographer and native of Milwaukee, has traveled to 71 cities and five countries to host 99 shows over the past two years. She has raised $40,952 to date for 138 organizations around the world.

She is an avid animal rights activist, vegan, LGBTQ rights champion and drag queen. LaBronx has been hosting the Big Fat Vegan Radio podcast since 2012. In 2011, LaBronx and her drag mother, Bob The Drag Queen, were arrested for blocking New York City traffic to demand marriage equality.

LaBronx’s 100th fundraiser benefits two Long Island charities, featuring guest performers Syn and Angelique.

Pride for Youth is a service and an advocate for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) young people through age 30. Their mission is to enhance the health, wellness and cultural competency of LGBTQ young people through education, support services and youth development. PFY serves New York State’s Nassau, Suffolk and Queens counties.

Long Island Orchestrating for Nature (LION) is Long Island's leading animal advocacy organization and farmed animal rescue. LION has eliminated animal circuses, rodeos, and wild animal acts across Long Island, stopped the slaughter of thousands of deer and geese, and directly rescues hundreds of wild and farmed animals each year. LION recently barred a slaughterhouse from opening in Islip and prevented an aquarium from expanding onto Long Island. LION is currently caring for more nearly 200 birds rescued from animal sacrifice in New York City.
