Wet, Windy Weather Headed For Long Island

The Long Island Super Bowl Sunday forecast: Mostly cloudy with a high near 44 degrees. The wind chill temperature, though, could sink as low as 15 degrees early in the day as winds gust up to 30 mph. At kickoff at 6:30 p.m., it will be about 34 degrees on the island.

On Monday (that day when half the nation mysteriously calls into work sick), skies will be mostly sunny with a high near 40, the National Weather Service says.

Long Island will then get a solid soaking on Tuesday as a storm system that will dump snow north and west of the region will mainly turn to plain old rain by the time it reaches the island. There is a chance of snow Tuesday morning, but nothing more than a coating is expected to accumulate. The rain, though, will drench the region. It's expected to fall throughout the day Tuesday and showers are likely to continue into Wednesday.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 30. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. West wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Wind chill values between 25 and 35. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph.

Monday Night: A chance of rain and snow, mainly after 5am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. West wind 5 to 8 mph becoming east after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday: A chance of rain and snow before 8am, then rain. High near 45. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Tuesday Night: Rain likely before 8pm, then showers likely after 8pm. Cloudy, with a low around 44. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Wednesday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 55.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 29.
