Woman Dies In Bethpage Apartment Fire

BREAKING: A 79-year-old woman was found unconscious on the floor after a fire started early Friday, police say.

BETHPAGE, NY — A 79-year-old woman is dead after the Bethpage apartment she lived in caught on fire early Friday, Nassau police said.

Officers from the Eighth Precinct responded to a Nicole Court apartment building at 2:20 a.m. after someone called due to the smell of smoke. A fire had started in one of the apartments, police said.

The Hicksville Fire Department burst into the apartment and found the woman unconscious on the floor, police said. A physician pronounced her dead at a local hospital.

All other occupants in the apartment were evacuated without injury, police said. The Nassau County Police Arson Bomb Squad responded along with the Nassau County Fire Marshall. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
