Man Rescued After Falling Into Frigid Waters

The 69-year-old was treated for hypothermia after he fell into the waters at Fire Island Pines Marina Thursday night.

FIRE ISLAND PINES MARINA, NY — Officers rescued a Hampton Bays man who fell in the water at the Fire Island Pines Marina Thursday night, according to Suffolk police.

The 69-year-old was working on a boat when he fell into the marina at 6:15 p.m. Officers, responding to a call 911 from a local resident, found the man struggling to get out of the water.

A group of people on the dock tried to extend a rope to him, but he was unable to get himself out of the cold water. Three officers aboard a patrol boat approached him and were able to successfully bring him aboard.

The man was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of hypothermia.
