WATCH: Tornado-Like Waterspout Seen Off Fire Island Pines
The tornado-like waterspout was seen as a special marine warning was issued Monday afternoon.

FIRE ISLAND PINES, NY — A tornado-like waterspout was caught on video Monday afternoon in the waters off Fire Island Pines. Videos of the apparent weather phenomenon were posted to Twitter as a National Weather Service special marine warning was in effect from Sandy Hook, New Jersey to the Fire Island Inlet in New York.
"At 3:44 p.m., a strong thunderstorm was located near Rockaway Inlet, moving east at 25 knots," weather officials said.
The warning through 4:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, stated wind gusts of 34 knots or greater were possible and small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves.

Twitter user Scott S Davis said he videoed the waterspout a few minutes before 4 p.m. Monday from his house on the beach looking southeast from Fire Island Pines.
