5 Public LI High Schools Named Among Best In State In New Study

WalletHub compared more than two dozen different factors in its study. See how your school ranked.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Five Long Island high schools were named among the best public schools in the state in a recent study conducted by WalletHub.

WalletHub compared more than 1,200 public high schools across the state across multiple metrics, which it grouped into four categories: college readiness, school experience, diversity and teacher and staff. It combined the metrics to create a score out of 100 for each school. College readiness was the most important metric, and was worth 40 points. The other three were worth 20 points each.

  1. Stuyvesant High School
  2. Valley Stream Central High School
  3. Staten Island Technical High School
  4. Townsend Harris High School
  5. Valley Stream South High School
  6. Half Hollow Hills High School East
  7. High School Math Science and Engineering at CCNY
  8. Nyack Senior High School
  9. Syosset Senior High School
  10. Oyster Bay High School

Stuyvesant High School, the top in the state, had an overall score of 76.5. Valley Stream Central was a close second, with a score of 76.22.

In creating its metric, WalletHub said it consulted a panel of experts, each of whom had decades of experience in education.
