Abused Dog Looking For New, Loving Home

Biggie was left to die, but has recovered. Now he's looking for a new home with a loving family.

The surviving dog of a pair that was left to die in a basement apartment in Elmont earlier this year is making a recovery, and the adoption agency that has him is hoping to find him a new, loving home.

Maverick — who now goes by Biggie — and his brother Sheru, both Great Danes, were found on Jan. 14 locked in a basement apartment after their former owner allegedly left them there after moving out. Authorities say the dogs had been neglected for two to three months before they were found. Sheru died soon after being rescued, but Biggie has recovered.

Biggie is under the care of Rescue City, a Brooklyn-based animal rescue group. He is currently being fostered in a home with another dogs and a cat, and is looking for a loving family who can take him in (and who don't mind a big pooch in the house).

He is still recovering, and his bones are a little weak, but Biggie is still full of love and a zest for life, the agency says.

"This 4-year-old hunk is an absolute mush," Rescue City wrote of Biggie. "Aside from his weak skeletal state, he still has love, joy and sparkle in his eyes, and he’s got an adorable underbite. Biggie ... is being fostered with a Husky, a Poodle and a cat, he is sweet/playful with all while they’re showing him the ropes of what it’s like to be in a real home."
