  1. Jerry Barmash reports that a local politician is calling for a new state law that would require engineers to inspect buildings after a condo collapsed in Surfside, Florida. State Senator Todd Kaminsky held a news conference to discuss the issue, and the age of many condo buildings in Long Beach and on Long Island. (Patch)
  2. Daysi Calavia-Robertson profiles a young entrepreneur who makes what he says are healthier versions of sports drinks. Lamar Letts was an athlete at Hewlett High School and at only age 27 the Woodmere resident has a thriving company, called Hylux. (Newsday)
  3. Newsday has this week's Long Island Water Quality Report, Stony Brook University's surveying of bays, harbors, rivers and inlets. Hewlett Bay received a "fair" rating, based on how clear the water is, oxygen levels, and the levels of algae or bacteria from human or animal waste. (Newsday)
  4. John Asbury has the story about Suffolk County Police Officer Pete Zotos, who pulled over a car in Selden and saw a two-year-old boy who was in a too-small car seat. Zotos bought a bigger car seat for the boy after his father, Mario Romero, of Valley Stream said he couldn't afford one. (Newsday)
