Update: Cops Confirm Baby's Remains Found at Sanitary District
Homicide Squad searching for answers after remains were discovered in North Lawrence Tuesday.

The remains of a baby were discovered at Sanitary District 1Â in North Lawrence Tuesday, Nassau County Police confirmed.
At 2:21 p.m. Tuesday, police "discovered the remains of a deceased fetus"Â at the facility at 2Â Bay Blvd. in Lawrence, cops said. Fourth Precinct officers were sent to the scene after a "report of a baby with difficulty breathing," according to detectives.

According to Newsday, the remains were found in a garbage bag on a conveyor belt at the facility.
A cause of death has yet to be determined by Medical Examiners, who are aiding in the Homicide Squad's investigation, cops said.

"It was an extreme shock," Timothy Jaccard, a police medical technician and NCPDÂ Safe Haven coordinator, told Newsday. "I was very devastated. It's been about three years and 10 months since we've had a baby lost to infanticide..."
Detectives are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain anonymous.
