Famed North Woodmere Native Get Plaza Renamed In His Honor

NORTH WOODMERE, NY — A hometown favorite gets a big honor!

Former United States Ambassador to Israel and North Woodmere native David Friedman will have a lasting legacy as the plaza near Broadway and Franklin Place was renamed "Ambassador David M. Friedman Way," the Town of Hempstead said in a statement.

The dedication is for his commitment to the Five Towns and the State of Israel.

Town of Hempstead Supervisor, who led the event, said in a statement: "From helping to move the United States Embassy to Jerusalem to being a leader in speaking out against anti-Semitic speech and acts of violence throughout the world, Ambassador Friedman has been a tireless advocate for Jewish people in Israel, the Town of Hempstead and worldwide."

Friedman was overwhelmed with the special recognition on Tuesday.

"This is an incredible honor. I'm looking at this edifice with my name on it and it's so meaningful to me because Woodmere is the wellspring from where my journey began," Ambassador David Friedman said. "This is the community who taught me the holistic values which drove me and my family to our accomplishments."
