Hempstead Vows To Block Golf Course Development
Despite legal challenges, the town plans to block the plan to build homes at the Woodmere Club.

Despite a judge's ruling that its actions were unconstitutional, the Town of Hempstead plans to keep up its fight to block developers from building homes at the Woodmere Club golf course.
According to Newsday, a Nassau County Supreme Court judge ruled that the town's moratorium on building at the site was unconstitutional. The moratorium had blocked developers from starting their plan to build 285 homes on the golf course, which is slated to close.
Hempstead Town officials said they plan to extend the moratorium while challenging the judge's ruling. But the developers said that, if the town follows through with that plan, it will seek intervention from federal courts, and will also sue for millions of dollars in damages, Newsday reported.
