Hewlett-Woodmere School District parents, students and faculty, joined by local veterans, gathered on Thursday at district headquarters to honor "our fallen heroes."

American flags currently line the yard in front of the building at Broadway and Johnson Place and will stay up until the middle of June.

The school district will take part on Monday in the community's first Memorial Day Parade in three years.
