Hofstra's DeMatteis School Climbs the List

Hofstra’s Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science has just moved up into a tie for 32nd place among 210 non-PhD granting engineering schools in the United States, according to the recently released 2020 Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs, compiled by U.S. News & World Report.

Last year the DeMatteis School was tied for 35th place out of 205, and the previous year it was tied for 38th out of 200 schools. It now ranks among the top 15% of this category of engineering schools nationwide.

“We are thrilled to see our progress reflected on this year’s list,” said Dean Sina Rabbany. “Our continued advancement in the U.S. News rankings over the last four years is a testament to the enhancements we continue to make to our engineering and computer science programs and our ongoing commitment to provide our students with a quality education.”

The U.S. News rankings are published every September. The magazine surveys engineering school deans and select faculty members in the spring and asks them to rate each program they are familiar with on a scale from 1 to 5. A two-year running average is then used to give the program a score; the DeMatteis score of 3.1 enabled it move upward among the more elite comparable institutions.
