Man Charged With Attempted Murder For December Shootout: NCPD
Police say the man was shot and fired back at his attacker's car as they drove away. Police are searching for the other shooter.
NORTH VALLEY STREAM, NY — Nassau County police arrested a Brooklyn man on Wednesday for his role in a shootout in North Valley Stream in late December.
According to police, after leaving a house party on Sherbourne Road at 4:10 a.m. on Dec. 23, Rufino Rodriguez, 24, of Lott Avenue, Brooklyn, was approached in his car by an unknown man. The man pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots at Rodriguez.
When officers arrived, they found Rodriguez with a gunshot wound in his leg. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

During an investigation of the incident, police used video from nearby homes. Police say the video shows the unknown man getting out of his car, shooting at Rodriguez and then getting back into his car. As the shooter tried to flee, police say that Rodriguez also pulled out a gun and fired several shots at the man's car as it went south on Sherbourne Road.
Rodriguez surrendered himself to police on Jan. 13 and was placed under arrest.

Rodriguez is charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree criminal use of a firearm and second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today.
Police are still trying to identify the man who shot Rodriguez. Police ask anyone with information to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
