Man Forced His Way Into Nassau Home, Attacked Occupant: Police

Police say Miguel Torres slashed the occupant's arm with a box cutter and bit a chunk out of his cheek during an attempted robbery.

INWOOD, NY — A Far Rockaway man was arrested Wednesday night after Nassau County police say he forced his way into a man's home and attacked him with a box cutter.

According to police, Miguel Torres, 18, of Gerson Court, approached a man near the intersection of Bayview Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard around 11 p.m. Police say Torres pulled out a blue folding box cutter and demanded the man's wallet. The man refused and ran back to his home on Bayview Avenue, police said.

According to police, Torres followed the man to his home and forced his way inside. Once inside, a struggle ensued, and police say Torres slashed the man on his left hand and forearm, and bit a chunk out of his left cheek.

The man and three others managed to restrain Torres and call 911, and officers arrested him when they arrived, police said. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of his wounds.

Torres is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree robbery, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing. He is scheduled to be arraigned today.
