Man Injured LI Officer During Arrest Following Burglary: Police
Police say officers found the man riding a bike he stole from a home, and he resisted when they tried to arrest him.
CEDARHURST, NY — Nassau County police say they arrested a man for burglary after he struggled with officers in a convenience store.
According to police, officers were investigating a burglary at a home on Prospect Avenue at 3:38 a.m. While they were canvassing the area, police say the officers saw a man who matched a description of the burglar, riding a bike that was stolen from the house.
Police say the officers approached the man as he entered the Bolla Market on Rockaway Turnpike. The officers tried to place him under arrest, and police say he become combative. After a brief struggle, police arrested Bryan McCants, 39, of Dwight Avenue, Far Rockaway.

During the struggle, police say one officer suffered injuries to his leg. he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police say an investigation found that McCants had four outstanding warrants, and was in possession of a substance believed to be crack-cocaine.

McCants is charged with second-degree assault, third-degree burglary, resisting arrest, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, petty larceny and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today.
