Nassau Ranked 5th Healthiest County in New York

The 2015 County Health Rankings published by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation have been released.

Nassau County is the fifth healthiest county in New York State, according to a report released Wednesday.

Nassau was in the top five healthiest counties for length of life, health behaviors, clinical care and social economic factors. The county was also ranked ninth for physical environment in the 2015 County Health Rankings, published online by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute.

The only category where Nassau did not break the top 10 was in quality of life, where the county ranked 20th.

Overall, Nassau ranked fifth for overall health outcomes compared to New York’s 62 counties and was bested only by Rockland, Putnam, Saratoga and Tompkins counties.

Nearby Suffolk County was ranked at No. 15 overall while Queens and Brooklyn were 12th and 43rd, respectively.

The rankings use data and analysis that allow counties to see what it is that makes residents sick or healthy, and how they compare to other counties in the same state.
