New Traffic Pattern Near Nassau Expressway

For two months, drivers on Bay Boulevard will be diverted onto a temporary road, officials said.

A new traffic pattern is being implemented started today on Bay Boulevard, near Nassau Expressway, in Inwood.

Starting this afternoon, all traffic on Bay Boulevard will be shifted to a temporary roadway between Rockaway Turnpike and Rason Road. The number of travel lanes on Bay Boulevard will not be reduced and dedicated left turning lanes in each direction to Nassau Expressway will also remain.

Variable message signs have been placed in the area to guide and alert driver. This configuration is expected to remain in place for approximately two months.

The road is being diverted as part of the construction being done on Nassau Expressway to enhance the safety and operation of the road between Rockaway Turnpike and Burnside Avenue. The $130 million work will also improve the resiliency of the road as an Emergency Coastal Storm Evacuation Route.
