Hewlett-Woodmere Schools has appointed the current principal of Oceanside High School as its new assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
Mark Secaur’s appointment was approved by the board of education at a special meeting on Monday. It is effective Aug. 1. Dr. Laura Seinfeld recently vacated the position to assume the role of superintendent of the Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District.
“It is an honor to be appointed as the new assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools. My previous experience at Oceanside Public Schools, Nassau BOCES and the NYC Department of Education has prepared me well for this new leadership role,” Secaur said. “I look forward to joining the district’s highly respected leadership team in growing the educational programs to help all of our students reach their full potential as 21st century learners and global citizens.”

Since 2008, Secaur held the position of principal at Oceanside High School, where he was responsible “for the supervision of about 2,000 students and 235 staff members, developed a school-wide intervention plan for students in academic jeopardy, and worked closely with departmental supervisors to improve rate of mastery on Regents and Advanced Placement exams,” according to a district press release.
Secaur also served as associate principal of Oceanside High School for three years, assistant principal of Nassau BOCES, as a special education teacher for the New York City Department of Education and taught as an adjunct professor at CUNY Brooklyn in the Special Education Master’s Program.

Secaur also currently serves as the president-elect of the Long Island Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (LIASCD).
“Mr. Secaur’s extensive administrative background as both a principal and associate principal, combined with his years as a classroom teacher, make him an excellent choice to supervise curriculum and instruction for our district,” said Hewlett-Woodmere Superintendent Dr. Joyce Bisso. “He has demonstrated a highly collaborative leadership style and understanding of the complexity of leading in these challenging times. We are confident that Mr. Secaur will work tirelessly to support the district’s shared vision and mission and will build meaningful relationships with our committed staff, supportive parents and capable students.”
