One Of Long Island's Last J.C. Penney Stores To Close In April
It's one of only three stores left on the Island, and it won't be here for much longer.

VALLEY STREAM, NY — One of Long Island's last J.C. Penney stores is going to be closing in late April, according to information filed with the state.
The store in the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream will be closing on April 24, according to information the company filed with the New York State Department of Labor. The store has been open at that location since 1957.
There will be 126 people losing their jobs in the closing.

“Eligible associates who do not transfer to another J.C. Penney location will receive separation benefits, and all impacted associates may participate in a three-hour career training class,” store spokeswoman Kristen Bennett said.
JC Penney is one of a number of brick-and-mortar retailers that have been shuttering locations in the last few years. Last year, the chain closed dozens of stores and laid off thousands people to help save money. Among the stores closed was the location in the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove.

With the closing of the Valley Stream store, JC Penney will have just two locations left on Long Island: one in Garden City in the Roosevelt Field Mall, and one in the South Shore Mall in Bay Shore.
