Sonic to Open First Nassau County Location
The popular fast food chain is set to open in the fall.

Nassau County residents looking to grab some Sonic will soon no longer have to travel to North Babylon for the fast food chain's burgers or shakes.
A Sonic Drive-In will be opening up at the outdoor shopping center, the Green Acres Common, currently under construction adjacent to the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream this fall, according to a spokesperson from the Green Acres Mall.
The Commons, located on 750 West Sunrise Highway, will be a 20-acre parcel featuring nine new retailers including: 24 Hour Fitness, Ashley Furniture Home Store, BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse, Burlington, Buffalo Wild Wings, Dick's Sporting Goods, Five Below, Homegoods and Ulta.

“Our goal with the new Green Acres Commons is to deliver more of the retailers and services desired by this attractive market, where upscale Long Island suburbs meet dynamic Queens neighborhoods,” Joe Floccari, Senior Property Manager, Green Acres Mall said. “Together, the Commons and Green Acres Mall will offer more than 2.1 million square feet of great shopping and dining for this exceptional set of communities.”
This will mark the second Sonic store to open on Long Island and the first in Nassau County.

When the first store opened up in North Babylon in 2011, cars backed up the southbound lanes of Deer Park Avenue as they waited in line for up to three hours to grab a bite of a burger or shake from a roller-skating employee, according to a previous Patch article.
