1. Jerry Barmash looks at a group planning to protest before Saturday's Belmont Stakes in Elmont. 22 horses have died this year at Belmont Park and the group, NYClass, wants to bring awareness to what they call "cruel and deadly horse racing practices." (Patch)
2. Dan Papscun has a story about a Woodmere-based company that was ordered to pay $1.56 million to Filipino nurses for violating trafficking laws. The nursing agency and recruiter, Prompt Nursing Employment Agency LLC, doing business as Sentosa Services, promised the nurses jobs after bringing them to the U.S. but threatened to fine them if they left the jobs early. 3. Matthew Ferremi reports on a Woodmere resident's quest to find out why a stop sign was installed on his street, Midfield Rd. After submitting a freedom of information request he learned that the request was submitted to the Town of Hempstead by a Queens resident, who also requested 50 other stop signs in the Five Towns. The reasons why are unknown. (LI Herald)
4. Nicole Alcindor and Jessica Semins have the details on the New York Naval Cadet Corps coming to Valley Stream's Memorial Day ceremony Monday where 96 names of service members from the community who never returned from war were read. Although the pandemic strained the group's activities they were happy to observe the holiday. (LI Herald and LI Herald)

- Students at Lawrence Primary School in the Lawrence Union Free School District learned about different cultural heritages and food during a Multicultural Day celebration. (Patch)
- A Long Island teacher and student are about to receive this year's Jimmy Awards, for excellence in theater arts at schools. The 2018 winner Andrew Barth Feldman won the award for his role in "Catch Me If You Can" at Lawrence Woodmere Academy, and went on to star in "Dear Evan Hansen" on Broadway in 2019. (Newsday)
- A new Greek restaurant has opened in Valley Stream. Spartan’s Grill is located at 23 Rockaway Ave. (LI Herald)
