Young Israel of Hewlett to Open Doors for Sabbath Dinner

Temple takes part in large effort to boost Sabbath observance.

Young Israel of Hewlett will join about 700 other synagogues across North America on Friday to try and "revitalize Sabbath observance," according to a press release.

The temple, located at One Piermont Ave., will open its doors to practicing and non-practicing Jews for a traditional Sabbath service and meal for the 17th annaul Shabbat Across America and Canada Program. About 70,000 people are expected to participate in the effort. In the past, some 914,000 people have taken part in Shabbos Across America and Canada.

Rabbi Heshy Blumstein will lead the program in Hewlett, starting at 6:30 p.m., which includes an interactive Sabbath dinner with all the rituals explained. Rabbi David Fohrman, author of The Queen You Thought You Knew, Unmasking Esther’s Hidden Story, will also speak.
