Chamber Welcomes Additional Sanitation in Downtown Flushing

Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce Welcomes Twice-Daily Sanitation Pick-up and Garbage Cans in Downtown Flushing, Queens.

Flushing, NY – The Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the City to identify locations for up to 50 new garbage cans in Downtown Flushing, Queens. The garbage cans will be purchased by the City and maintained by the NYC Department of Sanitation to help reduce litter in congested areas. The Chamber invites local business owners and residents to provide suggestions for the placement of these heavy-duty garbage cans.

The Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce also participated in a Town Hall Meeting on November 21 with Mayor Bill de Blasio and Council Member Peter Koo to discuss a number of important challenges facing our community, including the need for more sanitation services. At the Town Hall, the Mayor announced that the City will double street cleaning efforts in downtown Flushing from once-a-day to twice-a-day trash collection starting November 22.

“We welcome the additional sanitation services for our community and will continue to put pressure on the City to prioritize Flushing when it comes to planning and allocating resources,” stated John Choe, executive director of the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce. “This expansion of sanitation services for Downtown Flushing will have a significant impact on the neighborhood and greatly improve safety and cleanliness for local businesses and residents.”
