Cop Injured After Flushing Car Theft Prompts Police Chase

A police officer was injured after he fell while chasing two suspected car thieves through Downtown Flushing on Monday, the NYPD said.

FLUSHING, QUEENS — A police officer was injured after he fell while chasing two suspected car thieves through Downtown Flushing on Monday, an NYPD spokesperson said.

Officers were responding to a 911 call of a stolen vehicle by 41st Avenue and Union Street about 3:30 pm. Monday when they spotted a civilian chasing two people, according to police.

Police ran after them, but one officer fell and suffered minor injuries. He went to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens for treatment, the police spokesperson said.

Shortly after the chase, police arrested Elmhurst resident Anthony Moreira for the theft.

Moreira, 27, now faces charges of robbery, grand larceny, possession of burglars' tools, assault, harassment and other crimes.

A second suspect is still at large, police said.
