Denmark-Based Brewery Opens First NYC Location In Queens
Cult Danish brewer Mikkeller will open its first U.S. brewery outside of California at Citi Field on March 25.

FLUSHING, QUEENS -- Famed Danish brewer Mikkeller is tapping into the New York City market for the first time with a new brewery slated to open in Queens this weekend.
Mikkeller Brewing NYC will host its grand opening on March 25 inside Citi Field, where it will serve a rotating tap of 60 beers and food from a variety of chefs, spokeswoman Liz Pierson told Patch.
The new brewery is Mikkeller's first expansion into the United States outside of California - coming in behind digs in San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco - and its 32nd location worldwide, Pierson told Patch.

Founder Mikkel Borg Bjergsø was a physics and math teacher when he first began experimenting with brewing hops, malts and yeast from his Denmark kitchen in 2006. Twelve years later, his micro-brewed beer has developed a global cult following and can be found in 40 different countries.
Mikkeller's 10,000-square-foot brewery in Flushing Meadows Park features a vast beer-production area complete with 20 vertically stacked barrel fermentors, a bar and communal dining space.

Though the brewery is inside the baseball stadium, it will be open to the public year-round. Non-ticket holders can enter through a separate entrance at 126 Street and 38th Avenue, Pierson said.
Mikkeller NYC will be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 10 p.m. and Fridays - Sundays from noon to 12 a.m.
