COLLEGE POINT, QUEENS — A police officer was arrested Monday in Queens for an incident involving an ex-girlfriend, but the NYPD is refusing to share details of the case.

NYPD Officer Niall O'Doherty faces for a May 16 incident in College Point, the alleged victim's mother told the New York Post.

O'Doherty followed the woman in public, restrained her and attacked her, according to a Queens grand jury indictment, which did not elaborate.

The charges resulted from a "confidential investigation," police told the Post. An NYPD spokesperson referred Patch's questions about the case to the Queens district attorney's office.

Police typically provide reporters with details about arrests of city employees.

Civil rights attorney Norman Siegel told Gothamist that the secrecy around O'Doherty's arrest "raises the question of whether a police officer is being treated differently, and on what basis the investigation is confidential."

The victim's mother told the Post that the victim is five months pregnant and is seeking a restraining order against O'Doherty.

"He's got a lot of problems," she told the Post. "We can’t really talk about it."

O'Doherty has worked for the police department since 2011, city payroll data shows. He lives in Bayside.
