Flushing Fantastic Launches Lunar New Year Promotional Campaign (Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce)

Business leaders announced the launch of the 2020 Lunar New Year Promotional Campaign to showcase local businesses during this month-long holiday -- the busiest and most important shopping season for the Flushing community. The announcement took place with representatives from the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce, EmblemHealth, Green Earth Urban Gardens, the United States Census Bureau, La Jornada, and St. George’s Church.

As part of this promotional campaign, the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce is planning to distribute 5000 Red Envelopes during the 2020 Lunar New Year Parade, which attracts more than 10,000 visitors from around the metropolitan region. Each red envelope will include business cards and coupons from local businesses.

The submission deadline for business cards and coupons to be included in the Red Envelopes is January 10, 2020. Those interested in participating should contact angelina@flushingchamber.nyc or 646-820-5163 as soon as possible.

“Join our Chamber in ushering in the Year of the Rat with our Lunar New Year promotion!” stated Taehoon Kim, President of the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce. “In our community, Red Envelopes are gifts presented at special occasions and symbolize good luck throughout the year. Many people hold onto the Red Envelopes as keepsakes.”

The next Flushing Lunar New Year Parade will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2020. The Parade is organized by a coalition of community groups led by the Flushing Chinese Business Association and the Korean American Association of Queens. The Parade will inaugurate the Year of the Rat in the New York City metropolitan area.

2020 looks to be a year full of growth and accomplishments as the Rat is considered inquisitive, shrewd, and resourceful in the Chinese zodiac. The Rat is also the first in the rotation of the 12 zodiac signs, meaning that a Rat year is a year of renewal. So when a Rat year comes, it generally delivers new experiences with favorable outcomes.

In addition to the Red Envelopes, the Chamber is also distributing 1000 Good Fortune Calendars and hosting a Pre-Parade Lunar New Year Reception from 9:30am to 10:30am on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at historic St. George’s Church located on Main Street and 38th Avenue in downtown Flushing, Queens. All are welcome to join the Chamber in warming up with hot coffee and donuts before marching in the Parade at 11am. For more information and to register in advance, visit lunar2020.eventbrite.com.

The Lunar New Year Promotion is organized by the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce as part of the Flushing Fantastic district marketing campaign, which is funded by the New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS) Neighborhood 360° Program.
