Flushing Meadows Park To Host Citywide Swim Championship

More than 500 young swimmers from NYC Parks swim teams in all five boroughs will compete in the 2018 Borough Cup Championship on Sunday.

FLUSHING, QUEENS -- More than 500 of the city's best young swimmers will make waves in the Flushing Meadows Corona Park pool this weekend as they compete for the title of Borough Cup Champion.

The park's pool along Avery Avenue and 131st Street will host to 20th Borough Cup Championship swim meet on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the NYC Parks & Recreation Department announced Friday.

Swimmers representing 13 NYC Parks swim teams from all five boroughs will compete for individual and team awards at the tournament, where around 400 parents and friends are expected to show up and cheer them on, according to the agency.

Teams made up of swimmers age 6-18 will compete for the Girls' and Boys' championship titles and the 2018 Borough Cup Championship, NYC Parks said.

The swimmer who've collected the most points of the season in each of the five age divisions will also be awarded an individual trophy.

NYC Parks swim teams are open to any young person who can swim 25 meters outdoors or 50 indoors in "reasonably good form," the agency said. The teams help young swimmers develop their aqua skills while learning competitive strokes, starts and turns, and team sportsmanship.
