Global Arts Venue Launches Free Series of Virtual Programming

Flushing Town Hall at Home! will stream prior, live performances and post a daily activity from teaching artists for children & families.

Flushing Town Hall is excited to launch its new, virtual series, Flushing Town Hall At Home!, which includes a twice weekly FTH at Home: Facebook Watch Party Live!, an FTH at Home: Zoom Community Hang, and a daily activity for families through FTH: Global Arts for Global Kids at Home.

While its doors are temporarily closed in accordance with COVID-19 physical distancing measures, Flushing Town Hall will continue to bring its renowned, global arts programming to world music and performing arts audiences online.

Every Tuesday and Friday at 7:00 PM, the nonprofit cultural organization’s FTH at Home: Facebook Watch Party Live! will stream prior live performances that were held at the venue. Viewers can tune in to the organization’s Facebook channel and discover the diverse, family-friendly arts performances its audiences have grown to love. In addition, Flushing Town Hall’s dedicated Teaching Artists are offering daily, online activities in the new series FTH: Global Arts for Global Kids at Home. The arts education series will run Tuesday through Friday this week and culminate in an online family matinee performance on Saturday. The first lesson launches on Tuesday, March 31. Each day participants will enjoy short videos of music or dance followed by an activity they can try at home. Families at home are also encouraged to post short video clips of themselves learning and engaging in the activity.

The series will include Colombian music from FTH Teaching Artist Martin Vejarano, Chinese dance with FTH Teaching Artist Ling Tang, and Indian dance with FTH Teaching Artist Abha Roy. Videos will be posted online at: http://www.flushingtownhall.org/fth-at-home-gagk

Fostering connections and community has always been at the heart of Flushing Town Hall’s mission. During this difficult time, Flushing Town Hall will also host an FTH at Home: Zoom Community Hang every Thursday at 1PM. “In times of crisis, the arts remind us of our shared humanity,” says Executive and Artistic Director Ellen Kodadek. “Though we may find ourselves more physically isolated than usual, none of us are alone. Join us online! Tune into one of our Zoom Community Hang sessions so we can see your smiling faces, participate in an online arts workshop with your kids, or clap along and dance around your living room while enjoying both new and familiar sounds at our next Facebook watch party.”

Flushing Town Hall is pleased to present these programs free of charge but welcomes donations from those who are able and moved to contribute.
