Long Island Man Charged With DWI For Fatal Crash On LIE In Queens

A Long Island man was arrested for drunk, unlicensed driving after he hit and killed a motorcyclist on the Long Island Expressway in Queens.

UTOPIA, QUEENS — A Long Island man was arrested for drunk, unlicensed driving after he hit and killed a motorcyclist on the Long Island Expressway in Queens late Monday night.

Police on Tuesday charged Coram resident Korey Cox with a DWI, driving without a license and refusing to take a breathalyzer test.

Cox, 27, was driving west on the LIE by 169th Street about 11:15 p.m. when he veered to the right and hit the motorcycle driver, then crashed into the guardrail between the expressway and the service road, according to police.

The motorcycle driver, 63-year-old Hollis resident Juan Moncada, slammed into a guardrail and fell off the motorcycle, police said.

First responders pronounced Moncada dead.

The driver, Cox, suffered no injuries, according to police.
