Man Guilty Of Slashing, Killing Woman Found In Queens Park: Jury

A homeless man found the Elmhurst woman's mangled remains in Kissena Corridor Park after the brutal 2015 murder, prosecutors say.

FLUSHING, QUEENS -- A man faces up to life behind bars for the brutal murder of a 28-year-old Queens woman whose body was found mangled and mutilated in a Flushing park.

Christopher Sobers, 28, was found guilty on Friday of stabbing Quing Quing Kiemde to death shortly after the two became romantically involved in 2015, said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown. The Elmhurst woman's body was discovered in Kissena Corridor Park that October.

"This was a brutal killing," Brown said. "The crime scene was seeped in blood and the victim's body mutilated and disemboweled."

Kiemde, who worked in a local bakery, developed an intimate relationship with Sobers after the two met in a mental health group meeting at Elmhurst Hospital Center, according to trial testimony.

Sobers allegedly slashed and stabbed Kiemde to death on Oct. 10, 2015. A homeless man discovered her mangled body the next day off a pathway in the park near Colden Street and Laburnum Avenue, prosecutors said.

When Sobers was taken in for questioning about the murder, police found Kiemde's cell phone on him, court records say. All her information had allegedly been removed and replaced with his own data.

After Kiemde first disappeared, Sobers was also seen wearing the distinctive handbag she used to carry her belongings in, according to court records.

A jury reviewed the evidence after a nearly three-week trial and convicted Sobers of second-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence and criminal possession of stolen property.

Sobers faces up to 25 years to life in prison for the crimes. He is set to be sentenced on March 14.
