Metered Parking Rates To Double In Parts Of Queens This Fall

The cost of metered parking in downtown Flushing will double to $2 per hour as part of a citywide price hike slated to hit Queens Nov. 1.

FLUSHING, QUEENS -- Parking along the bustling streets of downtown Flushing can cost you time, patience and - starting this fall - double the price.

Metered parking rates in downtown Flushing and other "outer-borough core areas" are slated to jump from $1 to $2 per hour as part of a citywide price hike that will take effect in Queens on Nov. 1, the Department of Transportation announced Thursday.

The DOT said the rate increases, which are the first since 2013, will begin in Brooklyn on Sept. 4 and should be rolled out in all boroughs by the year's end.

In Queens, downtown Jamaica - considered a core outer-borough area - will also see the cost of metered parking double to $2, the DOT said.

Rates in commercial districts of Astoria, Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights and Forest Hills will rise from $1 per hour to $1.50, according to the agency. All other metered parking in the borough's non-commercial districts will go up by a quarter to $1.25.

Meters south of 96th Street will cost $4 for the first hour and $6.75 for the second, and those between 96th and 110th Street will go from $1.50 to $2.50 per hour, the DOT said.
