KEW GARDENS HILLS, QUEENS — A man was charged with attempted murder for stabbing his girlfriend and her six-year-old daughter on Thanksgiving in a Queens apartment, prosecutors said.

The unnamed woman woke up early Thanksgiving morning in a Kew Gardens Hills apartment to the sound of her daughter screaming, according to the Queens district attorney's office.

She ran into the living room, where she saw her boyfriend, 30-year-old Steven Bagu, standing over her daughter with a knife in his hand, prosecutors said. The girl had been stabbed in the neck.

As the woman rushed to the apartment door to get help, Bagu jumped in front of her and stabbed her in the throat, according to prosecutors.

She and her daughter were trapped in the apartment for two hours until Bagu fell asleep, and the woman escaped to a neighbor's apartment and called 911, prosecutors said.
