FLUSHING, QUEENS — Nordstrom Rack is closing its store in The Shops at Skyview Center at the end of January, according to a layoff notice posted online.

Forty-two workers will lose their jobs when the Flushing store, an outpost of Nordstrom's discount store chain, closes on Jan. 31, 2020.

It is the only Nordstrom Rack location in Queens.

Nordstrom filed the layoff notice with the city's Department of Labor the day after opening a massive flagship store near Manhattan's Columbus Circle that will employ an estimated 1,200 employees.

"Within each market, we keep a close eye on the long-term performance of our stores, real estate agreements and the future needs of our business," a Nordstrom spokesperson wrote in an email to Crain's New York. "We make adjustments where necessary to grow and efficiently serve our customers."

The company is trying to find new roles for employees who will lose their jobs at the Skyview Center Nordstrom Rack, according to the Flushing Post.

Nordstrom did not respond to Patch's requests for comment.
