NYPD Sergeant Dies By Suicide In Queens Home
An off-duty NYPD sergeant reportedly died by suicide in his Fresh Meadows home Tuesday night, the 10th cop suicide so far this year.
FRESH MEADOWS, QUEENS — An off-duty NYPD sergeant died by suicide in his Queens home Tuesday night, police confirmed Wednesday. It is the 10th cop suicide so far this year.
The wife of Sgt. Linhong Li found him with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in their Fresh Meadows home about 9:30 p.m., according to the New York Daily News.
He was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

Li was assigned to the 24th Precinct on the Upper West Side, according to Assembly Member Nily Rozic, who represents Fresh Meadows.
"Tragically, last night we lost another member of our NYPD family to suicide," NYPD Commissioner John O'Neill said in a statement Wednesday. "We vow to keep fighting this fight, to do better on these and many other fronts, and to put a stop to this epidemic once and for all."

The NYPD in July announced plans to launch a peer counseling program to improve cops' access to mental-health resources amid a spate of officer suicides.
A month later, two NYPD officers died by suicide within a day of each other.
