Ron Kim Endorses John Choe for City Council
Kim Joins Senator Robert Jackson, Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer, 1199 SEIU & Working Families Party in Supporting Choe for District 20

New York State Assemblymember Ron Kim endorsed John Choe, candidate for City Council in District 20, in the upcoming Primary Election on Tuesday, June 22, 2021.
"John Choe is a courageous community activist, colleague, and a strong voice for progress in Flushing. His work to change our neighborhoods for the better through nonprofit organizations he founded and led, such as the Flushing Interfaith Council and the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce, demonstrate the kind of effective leadership he will bring on the City Council,” stated Assemblymember Ron Kim.
Assemblymember Kim’s endorsement of John Choe is his first public statement on an election that directly affects many of his own constituents and supporters. Kim was elected to represent the 40th Assembly District in 2012 and now chairs the Standing Committee on Aging. Kim is the first and only Korean-American ever elected to the New York State Legislature.

“I’ve known Ron Kim since we both worked in then-Councilmember John Liu’s Office. Ron’s the only elected official with the courage to hold Governor Andrew Cuomo accountable for the deaths of thousands of seniors in our nursing homes during the COVID 19 pandemic, to demand that the wealthy pay their fair share in our economic recovery, and to call for the decriminalization of sex work,” stated John Choe, Candidate for City Council in District 20. “I’m honored to be endorsed by Assemblymember Kim and look forward to partnering with him when I’m in the City Council on the important needs facing our community: neighborhood safety, affordable housing, educational equity, and reviving our small businesses.”
John Choe is the executive director of the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce and former Chief of Staff to John Liu. If elected, Choe would be the first Korean-American in the City Council. Choe has also secured the support and endorsement of Senator Robert Jackson; Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer; State Committeeman Donald Henton; District Leader Émilia Decaudin; Queens Borough Historian Jack Eichenbaum; Rev. Franklin Anderson of Macedonia AME Church; Maureen Regan, President of the Queensboro Hill Flushing Civic Association; Youngsoo Choi of the Korean American Alliance to Cancel Rent and Tax Relief; Sheldon Minnus of Victory United; as well as the Working Families Party (WFP), 1199 SEIU Healthcare Workers, Make the Road New York, Community Voices Heard, Queens United Independent Progressives (QUIP), and the New York Progressive Action Network (NYPAN).
