Liu Joins Senator Robert Jackson, Assemblyman Ron Kim, Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer, 1199 SEIU & Working Families Party in Supporting Choe

Senator John C. Liu endorsed John Choe for City Council in District 20 in the upcoming Democratic Party Primary Election on June 22, 2021.
“It’s a pleasure to endorse John Choe for City Council,” stated Senator John Liu. “JC led my first campaign, helping me become New York’s first Asian American elected official. As my Legislative Director and Chief of Staff, JC spearheaded my efforts to enact our City’s first language access law, hold developers accountable, and fight against racial bigotry and police abuse. He’ll make a fine Council Member, ready and able to serve effectively on Day 1.”
Senator Liu represents northeast Queens and chairs the Senate committee on New York City Education and also serves on the committees of Budget & Revenue, Education, Finance, Higher Education, Rules, and Transportation. Liu was Comptroller of the City of New York from 2010 to 2013, and represented District 20 in the New York City Council from 2002 to 2009. In 2013, Liu was a candidate for Mayor of New York City. Liu teaches municipal finance and public policy in Masters programs at the City University of New York and Columbia University.

“I’m proud to have Senator Liu’s endorsement,” said John Choe. “JL and I have worked together since 1996 when we opposed then-Councilwoman Julia Harrison scapegoating of Asian Americans in Flushing. As we face another wave of anti-Asian, I support JL's initiative to diversify our school curriculum and build greater understanding among younger New Yorkers. As the next Council Member to represent District 20, I look forward to partnering with JL to fight the developer-backed political machine that has failed our community. Let's unite and empower our community with more affordable, high-quality housing, healthcare, transportation, good schools and jobs, and economic development that supports small business owners.”
