FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — If you're looking for something to do during this rainy, long weekend consider watching a film at Forest Hills' historic Cinemart Cinemas, which recently reopened for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

Cinemart, at 106-03 Metropolitan Ave., was initially slated to reopen in April under the then 25-percent capacity limit set by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

But, Nicolas Nicolaou, the owner of the Forest Hills-based theater and two others in the city, told Variety that he wouldn't be able to make a profit at that capacity, since his small, independent theater could only allow 50 viewers at a time.

When Gov. Cuomo gave the go-ahead for the city's theaters to open at reduced capacity at the beginning of March, larger cinema chains were able to quickly reopen — like Regal, which reopened its Forest Hills location in May.

Nicolaou initially had a slower reopening process, but once the city began to fully reopen, so did his theaters: The Alpine Theater in Bay Ridge reopened for its centennial in June — the same month that Cinemart Cinemas opened — and Cinema Village in the West Village reopened this week.

Cinemart is currently screening three movies, each of which have a handful of show times every day.

Also, according to a comment on the theater's Facebook page, the concession stand is open, too.
