Crime at a Glance: Burglary Spike

Let's dig into the most recent crime numbers, released weekly by your local precinct, covering Forest Hills and Rego Park:

• Burglaries saw a big spike in the most recent week, with five, compared to just one during the same week last year.
• For the last month, there have been 14 burglaries in the area, also an increase over last year. All told, those weekly and monthly increases are contributing to a rise in the statistic for the calendar year. There has been a nearly 40 percent increase in burglaries in the precinct over 2012. 
• Robberies are up slightly for the month, but are still down for the year by more than 17 percent.
• There were 10 grand larcenies reported in the most recent week — not a great number, but an improvement over last year's 14. In total, grand larcenies in the precinct are down by more than six percent.
• There was one recorded rape reported in the 112 Precinct in the most recent crime numbers, as well. There have been three total reported this year.
