Crime at a Glance: The Return of Grand Larceny

Major crimes were only committed in two categories in Forest Hills and Rego Park this week, but there were plenty of them in each.

Let's dig into the COMPSTAT crime numbers below:

• There were 15 grand larcenies committed in the most recent week in Forest Hills and Rego Park. That number does not compare favorably to the same period last year, when there was only one. 
• That big number drove the total for the month up to 46, also an increase over last year.
• There were also six burglaries during the most recent week. While that number is less than last year, it still represents a more recent increase, and has driven up the monthly total, as well. 
• Those six burglaries pushed the precinct passed 100 for the year, far higher than the pace set in 2012. 
• Among minor crimes there were 23 petit larcenies, a slight increase over 2012. The yearly total is up nearly 15 percent.
