FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — The Forest Hills Asian Association is forgoing its annual holiday event this year for a civic-minded virtual get-together: a seminar on ranked-choice voting.

The group will host speakers from Rank The Vote NYC to conduct a training at 7 p.m. Tuesday on the new voting system, which takes effect next year if it survives a lawsuit to postpone it.

Under ranked-choice voting, New Yorkers will rank their top five choices in city primary races in order of preference, instead of having to choose just one candidate. If no candidate gets a majority of votes, the candidate in last place is disqualified and voters who ranked that person first will instead have their second choice counted. The process continues until one candidate has a majority of the vote.
