Forest Hills Driver Finds Interesting Way To Park Their Car After Snowstorm

"We were driving, trying to find parking. We took a double take and noticed the car parked on a snow mound," said one of the witnesses.

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — Robert Betz and Andrew Boryk were looking for a parking spot on Wednesday morning, when Betz noticed something peculiar about the way one car was parked on Burns Street.

The two had to reverse their car to capture the image above. The photo was uploaded to the NYC Reddit, where it received 785 upvotes by Thursday afternoon.

"There were a lot of snowed in cars on the block, and many people trying to push their snow into piles into the street. This guy, it seems, decided not to bother with trying to move things, and took the parking situation into his own hands," said Boryk. "Robert doesn't blame the guy, it took him a while to find the spot as well."

Some Reddit users reacted with a scientific approach: "The frame and suspension are designed to split the weight of the car four ways. Parking like this puts the stress on 2 points instead of 4, causing unnecessary forces in places on the frame that it was never designed for," user RowingCox expressed his concern to the car's well-being.

Others could easily relate to the photo: "ASP is suspended until Sunday, I ain't moving shit," user Unoriginal_UserName9 commented.

The comment thread immediately evolved into a discussion about the intricacies of alternate side parking and how snow operations could be improved. "[In Westchester rivertowns up the Hudson], they load the snow into the trucks and drive it straight down to the river. As it happens, Manhattan is surrounded by water into which the snow could be dumped... Of course, it's all a cost/benefit analysis - this would cost a ton of money, and it has been decided that the cost is not worth the benefit," user TheCheshireCody commented.

Many users were glad that they had All-Wheel Drive and could park anywhere they liked: "I've got an old Cherokee. I was out in 7 minutes, no shovel needed," commented user moldy_films.
