Forest Hills Named Top Spot For First-Time Home Buyers
Forest Hills, Jackson Heights, Kew Gardens and Rego Park all made the list in a report on the best neighborhoods for first-time home buyers.
FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — Forest Hills is the best neighborhood for millennials buying their first home, according to a new report.
Forest Hills nabbed the number-one spot in StreetEasy's list of the best New York City neighborhoods for first-time home buyers, with 414 apartments affordable to millennials earning the median household income.
The median asking price for the homes StreetEasy considered affordable was $335,000.

StreetEasy analyzed the number of homes in each neighborhood that would be affordable to New Yorkers aged 25 to 44 who earned $70,406, the median household income according to 2017 census data.
The home qualified as affordable if the monthly cost — including mortgage payments, taxes and maintenance costs — fell under 40 percent of the monthly gross household income.

Three other Queens neighborhoods made the list, according to StreetEasy: Rego Park, Kew Gardens and Jackson Heights.
Midtown East was the only Manhattan neighborhood to make it into the top 10.
