FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — The NYPD's 112th Precinct, which covers Forest Hills and Rego Park, is warning neighborhood residents of an increase in car thefts.

Nine cars have been stolen within the last four weeks in the 112th Precinct, compared to zero in the same time period last year, according to police data.

So far this year, 66 cars have been reported stolen — an increase of nearly 74 percent from the 38 stolen cars that had been reported by this time in 2019, the data show.

Police are urging car owners to keep vehicles locked at all times and never leave them running and unattended.

Other theft prevention tips include enrolling in the NYPD's C.A.T program, a voluntary decal program that authorizes investigative stops of the vehicles between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.
