REGO PARK, QUEENS — Ikea opened its doors in the Rego Center shopping mall on Monday, marking the Swedish furniture giant's first foray into Queens.

The 115,000-square-foot, small-format store at Queens Boulevard and Junction Boulevard is the first Ikea of its kind in the United States, according to a news release.

Its stock focuses on home furnishing and accessories for sustainable, small-space living that were curated specifically for New Yorkers.

Shoppers can also schedule appointments with Ikea employees to plan designs for their kitchens, living rooms and bedrooms.

“At IKEA we’re on a journey to transform our business to meet our customers wherever they are and how they like to shop," Javier Quiñones, president and chief sustainability officer of IKEA Retail U.S., said in a statement.

"As life at home has taken on a new meaning this year for so many people, our customers’ needs and behaviors are changing too, and we hope our new Queens store will serve as a convenient and accessible source of inspiration and home furnishing expertise for New Yorkers."

Health and safety guidelines at the new Ikea include social distancing guidance and strict capacity limits as well as temperature checks for employees and a cleaning and sanitization protocol, according to the news release.

The store will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
