REGO PARK, QUEENS — The first Ikea store in Queens is slated to open this month in the Rego Center, after the coronavirus pandemic delayed its opening date by several months.
Ikea is scheduled to open its doors at Queens Boulevard and Junction Boulevard in early January, according to a news release.
The small-format store will focus on home furnishing and accessories for sustainable, small-space living that have been curated specifically for New Yorkers.

A spokesperson said Ikea Queens will take "all precautionary measures to minimize crowds during opening" due to the pandemic.
The store will feature a grab-and-go eatery featuring the Swedish company's iconic meatballs, plus salmon and veggie meatballs and a selection of side dishes, though the eatery won't yet be open due to COVID-19 delays, according to a spokesperson.

Ikea announced its plans for the Rego Park store in September 2019.
The store was originally expected to open in summer 2020, but the opening was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic and the state's shelter-in-place orders.
