FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — The Irish Cottage shut its doors for good after a 60-year run in Forest Hills, citing the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a report.
The family-owned pub was among the oldest of its kind in Queens, Danny McNulty, the son of the late owner Kathleen McNulty, told the Forest Hills Post.
The Irish Cottage struggled to bring in enough revenue after the city enacted a rule limiting restaurants and bars to takeout orders during the pandemic, McNulty told the news outlet.

Then McNulty's mother died from complications related to the new coronavirus. She was 80.
The family hoped a federal bailout intended for small businesses could keep the pub afloat, but they received no funding, the Forest Hills Post reported.

So McNulty laid off the pub's seven employees. He fears it's a fate that will befall many other local businesses.
"There will be no more mom-and-pops after this,” he told the Forest Hills Post.
